About the Role
We’re looking for an experienced Controller with a strong background in commercial real estate property management accounting to join our dynamic team. You’ll oversee the financial health and operational performance of a diverse property portfolio—including office buildings, retail spaces, and a vibrant marina—while ensuring accurate reporting and compliance. Key Responsibilities
- Financial Reporting & Analysis: Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements; conduct variance analyses and provide actionable insights to the CFO. 
- Accounting Operations: Oversee accounts payable, perform accounts receivable processing, reconciliations, journal entries, and intercompany transactions. Ensure GAAP compliance and accurate CAM reconciliations. Perform payroll processing when needed. 
- Budgeting & Forecasting: Partner with the CFO and department managers on budgets, forecasts, and multi-year projections. 
- Internal Controls & Compliance: Enforce accounting policies, prepare audit work papers, and coordinate with external auditors and tax advisors. 
- Team Leadership: Supervise and mentor an Accounting Specialist, collaborate across departments, and act as a trusted advisor to the CFO. 
- Systems & Process Improvement: Optimize property management/accounting software (i.e., MRI, Sage, or Yardi), evaluate systems, and assist with software conversions. 
Qualifications
- Education/Experience: 
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (required). 
- 5–10 years progressive accounting experience in commercial real estate (required). 
- 2–3+ years of people management experience. 
- Skills & Knowledge: 
- Advanced Excel skills and Microsoft Office proficiency. 
- Proficiency with commercial real estate accounting systems (i.e., MRI, Sage, or Yardi) is required. 
- Strong understanding of GAAP and commercial real estate property accounting standards, budgeting, CAM reconciliations, audits, commercial lease concepts, financial reporting, and a working knowledge of depreciation and amortization concepts and methods. 
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and organizational skills. 
- Experience with payroll processing and benefit plans (including 401(k) plans) is preferred. 
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and meet strict deadlines.

Physical Requirements
This role involves extended periods of sitting and computer work, as well as occasional reaching, bending, and lifting up to 10 lbs.
